Introduction

Malyavan is the oldest and most senior minister of Ravana, a brother of Sumali. He is the one who advised Ravana to end the war by returning Sita.

This article primarily follows the Valmiki Ramayana. Where a well-known detail comes from a later retelling or tradition, the article identifies it.

Advice to Ravana

Before the war, Malyavan told Ravana that Rama could not be defeated, that signs and omens were against Lanka, and that Ravana should return Sita and make peace. Ravana was angry and rejected the advice. Malyavan blessed him and left.
