Anaranya

An Ikshvaku king killed by Ravana, who cursed Ravana to die at the hands of his descendant.

Introduction

Anaranya is a king of the Ikshvaku dynasty, and an ancestor of Rama. In the Uttara Kanda he is killed by Ravana and, as he dies, curses him.

The curse

When Ravana invaded Ayodhya, Anaranya fought and was defeated. As he died, he said that a descendant of the Ikshvaku dynasty would kill Ravana. In the Yuddha Kanda, Ravana himself recalls that Anaranya had made this prediction.
