Introduction

Uttara is the daughter of King Virata and Queen Sudeshna of Matsya. She is the wife of Abhimanyu, and the mother of Parikshit. She should not be confused with her brother Uttar Kumara.

Family

Marriage

During the year of hiding, Arjuna taught her dance and music as Brihannala. He refused to marry her himself, and asked that she be married to his son Abhimanyu, as a teacher regards his student's daughter as a daughter.

After Abhimanyu

Abhimanyu was killed on the thirteenth day of the war. Uttara was pregnant, and Ashwatthama used the Brahmastra on the child. The child, Parikshit, was revived by Krishna.
