From Princess to Nun
Some traditions name her father as Suppabuddha, making her a cousin of Siddhartha through the Koliya line, though other accounts give a different father; the Suppabuddha connection is recorded here as the more commonly cited version, not as settled fact. After the Buddha's enlightenment and return to Kapilavastu, Yasodhara eventually followed her aunt Mahapajapati Gotami into the newly founded order of Buddhist nuns, where she is remembered in later tradition as attaining significant spiritual accomplishment in her own right.
This article follows the Pali Canon and its commentarial tradition as the primary early Buddhist textual source; where sources genuinely disagree on a detail (such as an exact parentage), that disagreement is noted rather than resolved into a single invented certainty.
