Introduction
Suppabuddha was a chief of the Koliya clan, named in Buddhist tradition as father of both Maya Devi and Mahapajapati Gotami — making him grandfather, through them, of Siddhartha Gautama himself.

A Contested Additional Fatherhood
Some accounts also name Suppabuddha as father of Devadatta, the Buddha's cousin who later attempted to create a schism in the Sangha, though this attribution is not universal across all sources and this record notes it as one tradition among others rather than settled fact. Through his daughters, Suppabuddha's line is central to the Shakya-Koliya marriage connections underlying the Buddha's own family.
This article follows the Pali Canon and its commentarial tradition as the primary early Buddhist textual source; where sources genuinely disagree on a detail (such as an exact parentage), that disagreement is noted rather than resolved into a single invented certainty.
