Introduction

Yadu is the eldest son of King Yayati and Devayani. He is the ancestor of the Yadavas, the clan to which Krishna belongs.

Family

The curse

When Yayati asked his sons to take his old age in exchange for their youth, Yadu refused. Yayati cursed him that his descendants would never rule from the main throne of the lunar dynasty, and that his line would be a separate one. The Yadava dynasty descends from him through his son Kroshtu.

Tradition

Some traditions vary on whether Yadu, the son of Yayati, is the same person as the founder of the Yadava line, or a close descendant. The tree treats them as one figure.
