Introduction

Manuchehr is the grandson of the murdered prince Iraj, raised and trained specifically with the purpose of avenging his grandfather's death, who successfully defeated the conspirators Salm and Tur and assumed the Iranian throne, restoring the legitimate royal line descended from Fereydun's favoured son.

Family

Vengeance for Iraj

Learning of the plot that killed his grandfather Iraj, Manuchehr grew into a formidable warrior with the specific purpose of avenging him. He led a campaign against his great-uncles Salm and Tur, defeating and killing both, and restoring justice to the line of succession that had been so grievously violated by their fratricide.

King of Iran

As king, Manuchehr is remembered in the Shahnameh as a strong and capable ruler who consolidated Iran's power after the turmoil of Iraj's murder and its long aftermath, and his line continues through his descendants, including Nowzar and, eventually, the transition to the Kayanian dynasty.
