Introduction
Khonsu is the moon god of Thebes, son of Amun and Mut, completing the Theban Triad worshipped at Karnak.
Family
- Father: Amun
- Mother: Mut
Son of the Theban Pair
Khonsu's name means "traveler," reflecting the moon's nightly passage across the sky, and he was associated with healing and protection, particularly of the young; a later Ptolemaic-era text, the Bentresh Stela, credits a form of Khonsu with the magical healing of a foreign princess, reflecting the god's expanding reputation for medical power in the Late Period.
Ancient Egyptian religion spanned three millennia and many regional cult centers, so parentage, roles and even gender pairings for a given deity often differ between the Heliopolitan, Hermopolitan, Memphite and Theban theological systems; the account above follows the most widely attested classical version.
