Kamalaksha

One of the three Asura brothers of Tripura, destroyed together with his brothers by Shiva's single arrow.

Accounts of this vary across texts and traditions. This entry primarily follows Puranic tradition, with other tellings (Vedic tradition (Rigveda), Regional and sectarian traditions) noted where relevant.

Introduction

Kamalaksha, "lotus-eyed", is one of three Asura brothers, with Tarakaksha and Vidyunmali, who ruled the three cities of Tripura, destroyed together by Shiva.

This article follows the Puranic tradition. Where a detail differs between texts, the article says so.

In the story

Kamalaksha shares the story of his brothers: the three flying cities granted for their austerities, and their destruction together when Shiva's single arrow struck them at the moment of their rare alignment. No separate story is generally told of Kamalaksha apart from this shared episode. See the article on Tarakaksha for the full account of Tripura.
