The personification of discord and the degraded age, identified with Duryodhana in the epic's list of incarnations.
Accounts of this vary across texts and traditions. This entry primarily follows Mahabharata, with other tellings (Puranic traditions (Harivamsha, Bhagavata Purana), Regional retellings) noted where relevant.
Introduction
Kali is the personification of the age of discord, the Kali Yuga. The Adi Parva's list of divine incarnations names Duryodhana as his portion. This is a theological layer, and is not asserted in the story with the same weight as Krishna's divinity.
In the Mahabharata
The Adi Parva says that Kali was born as Duryodhana, along with Shakuni as an embodiment of Dvapara. This should not be confused with the Kali of the Nala story in the Vana Parva.
