Mother, Magician, Protector
Using powerful magic, Isis reassembled Osiris's scattered body and conceived their son Horus from it, then hid and raised the infant in the marshes of the Nile Delta, protecting him from Set's continued threats until he was old enough to contest the throne. Isis's cult eventually spread far beyond Egypt across the Greco-Roman world, where she was worshipped as a universal mother-goddess figure well into the Roman imperial period.
Ancient Egyptian religion spanned three millennia and many regional cult centers, so parentage, roles and even gender pairings for a given deity often differ between the Heliopolitan, Hermopolitan, Memphite and Theban theological systems; the account above follows the most widely attested classical version.
