Introduction

Haryashva is a king of the Ikshvaku dynasty of Ayodhya, who is best known in the Mahabharata as the first husband of Madhavi. Ancient lists of the Ikshvaku kings differ in names and order, so his exact place in the line varies by text.

In the story of Galava, the sage Galava needed eight hundred special horses and was given Madhavi, the daughter of King Yayati, to obtain them. Haryashva married her for a time, and their son was Vasumanas.
