Introduction

Goudarz is an elder Iranian hero of the Kayanian era, patriarch of a large and celebrated family of warriors, the Goudarzian clan, who serve the Kayanian kings across several generations of the Shahnameh's narrative.

Family

A clan of heroes

Goudarz is credited in the Shahnameh with numerous sons, of whom Giv is the most prominent, and the Goudarzian family as a whole plays a significant recurring role in the wars against Turan, providing many of the epic's secondary heroes alongside the more central figure of Rostam and his own house of Sistan.

Elder statesman

As an older, senior figure among the Iranian nobility, Goudarz often appears in an advisory capacity, respected for his long experience and loyalty across the reigns of multiple Kayanian kings.
