Introduction

Faramarz is a son of Rostam, who, after his father's murder through the treachery of Shaghad, led a campaign of vengeance against those responsible, continuing the heroic tradition of the house of Sistan into the next generation.

Family

Avenging Rostam

When Rostam was killed through his half-brother Shaghad's betrayal (engineered with the connivance of the ruler of Kabul, in whose territory the fatal trap was set), Faramarz led a military campaign against the house responsible, seeking justice for his father's death and restoring the honour of the house of Sistan.

Continuing the Sistan line

Faramarz's role in avenging Rostam reflects a recurring pattern across the Shahnameh, in which sons take up the duty of avenging their fathers across generations, echoing earlier examples such as Manuchehr's vengeance for Iraj and Kay Khosrow's for Siyavash.
