Introduction

Andromeda was an Ethiopian princess, daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia. When her mother boasted that Andromeda's beauty surpassed that of the Nereids, Poseidon sent a sea monster to ravage the coast, and an oracle demanded Andromeda be sacrificed to appease it.

Rescue and Marriage

Chained to a rock by the sea, Andromeda was found by Perseus on his return from slaying Medusa. He fought and killed the monster, then married her, founding through their descendants the royal house of Mycenae that would eventually produce Heracles.
