Introduction

Abtin is the father of Fereydun, a descendant of Jamshid's royal line, killed by the tyrant Zahhak's brain-devouring serpents before his son grew old enough to avenge him and reclaim the throne.

Family

Death and legacy

Abtin's death at Zahhak's hands is part of the broader horror of the tyrant's rule, in which ordinary families across Iran lost sons to the daily sacrifice demanded by Zahhak's serpents. His death leaves his wife Faranak to protect their infant son Fereydun alone, setting up the story of Fereydun's eventual return to overthrow Zahhak and restore just kingship.
