Founder of a Name
Tros fathered several sons, including Ilus, who would go on to found the city of Ilium (Troy) proper. Another son, Ganymede, was carried off by Zeus to become cupbearer to the gods, an event that in most tellings brought Tros a gift of divine horses as compensation for his loss.
As with all figures of Greek heroic legend, sources diverge on many particulars; the account above follows the most widely transmitted classical tradition.
