Power of the Nile

Sobek's crocodile form embodied both the danger and the fertile abundance the Nile represented to Egyptian life, and he was honored with live sacred crocodiles kept and mummified at his major temples. In some Late Period traditions from Sais, Sobek is named a son of the ancient warrior goddess Neith, reflecting regional variation in his genealogy.

Ancient Egyptian religion spanned three millennia and many regional cult centers, so parentage, roles and even gender pairings for a given deity often differ between the Heliopolitan, Hermopolitan, Memphite and Theban theological systems; the account above follows the most widely attested classical version.
