Guardian of the Southern Frontier

Satis's cult center at Elephantine, near Egypt's southern border and the Nile's first cataract, tied her closely to the annual flood's life-giving arrival into Egypt proper, and to the symbolic guarding of Egypt's frontier against Nubia and other southern lands.

Ancient Egyptian religion spanned three millennia and many regional cult centers, so parentage, roles and even gender pairings for a given deity often differ between the Heliopolitan, Hermopolitan, Memphite and Theban theological systems; the account above follows the most widely attested classical version.
