Protector of the Harvest
Renenutet's name relates to concepts of nursing and nourishing, and she was honored particularly at harvest time with offerings intended to secure both agricultural abundance and, by extension, the pharaoh's own prosperous and well-provisioned reign, which Egyptian ideology closely tied to the land's fertility.
Ancient Egyptian religion spanned three millennia and many regional cult centers, so parentage, roles and even gender pairings for a given deity often differ between the Heliopolitan, Hermopolitan, Memphite and Theban theological systems; the account above follows the most widely attested classical version.
