Regent of the Vakatakas
After her husband Rudrasena II's early death, Prabhavatigupta ruled as regent for her young sons for roughly two decades, a period during which Vakataka governance and inscriptions show strong Gupta cultural and administrative influence — making her one of the clearest examples of a Gupta-era woman exercising substantial direct political power, beyond the more typically commemorative role of a royal wife or mother.
This article records the Gupta Empire (c. 3rd-6th century CE) as historical genealogy reconstructed mainly from inscriptions, coinage and later literary references; several later successions and family relationships remain genuinely disputed among historians, and this account follows the most widely accepted reconstruction while flagging specific points of uncertainty.
