Introduction

Modi ("wrath" or "courage") is a son of Thor, named alongside his brother Magni as one of the gods prophesied to survive Ragnarok and inherit their father's hammer Mjolnir in the renewed world afterward.

Family

A less-detailed figure

Compared to his brother Magni, whose childhood feat of strength lifting the giant Hrungnir's leg is recounted in some detail, Modi receives comparatively little individual narrative in the surviving sources; he is named chiefly in genealogical lists as Thor's son and among those who survive Ragnarok.

Parentage

As with Magni, sources disagree on Modi's mother, with some naming Sif and others the giantess Jarnsaxa, without a clear resolution in the surviving texts.
