Among Ishmael's twelve
Genesis 25:16 describes Ishmael's twelve sons collectively as "princes" (nesi'im) according to their tribes, settled "from Havilah to Shur, opposite Egypt in the direction of Assyria", a formula that echoes, and is understood by many scholars as deliberately paralleling, the later structure of the twelve tribes descended from Jacob. Beyond this listing, Kedemah receives no individual narrative in the biblical text.
