A Grandmother in the Shakya Line
Kaccana's role in the surviving textual tradition is chiefly genealogical, establishing the immediate ancestry of Suddhodana and, through him, of Siddhartha Gautama himself; independent narrative detail about her own life is sparse in the Pali sources.
This article follows the Pali Canon and its commentarial tradition as the primary early Buddhist textual source; where sources genuinely disagree on a detail (such as an exact parentage), that disagreement is noted rather than resolved into a single invented certainty.
