Introduction

Hyllus was the eldest son of Heracles and Deianira. After his father's death and apotheosis, he became a leader of the Heraclidae, the collective descendants of Heracles.

Family

Ancestor of a Dynasty

Hyllus's descendants are said to have made repeated, initially unsuccessful attempts to invade the Peloponnese to reclaim what they considered their rightful inheritance from Heracles, an event Greek tradition associated with the later Dorian migration. Hyllus himself was killed in single combat during one such attempt.

As with all figures of Greek heroic legend, sources diverge on many particulars; the account above follows the most widely transmitted classical tradition.
