Introduction
Dattadevi was the chief queen of Samudragupta, named in Gupta-era inscriptions as mother of the future emperor Chandragupta II.
Family
- Spouse: Samudragupta (married)
- Children: Ramagupta, Chandragupta II
Recorded Chiefly as a Mother of Emperors
As with most Gupta queens, Dattadevi's own independent activities are thinly documented; her historical significance in the surviving record rests chiefly on her position as Samudragupta's chief queen and as the mother of Chandragupta II, one of the dynasty's most celebrated rulers.
This article records the Gupta Empire (c. 3rd-6th century CE) as historical genealogy reconstructed mainly from inscriptions, coinage and later literary references; several later successions and family relationships remain genuinely disputed among historians, and this account follows the most widely accepted reconstruction while flagging specific points of uncertainty.
