Atri is one of the Saptarishis, the seven great sages. He is the husband of Anasuya, and appears in the Ramayana as the host of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana at his hermitage near Chitrakuta.

Hosting the exiles
Atri received Rama with honour and asked his wife Anasuya to look after Sita. He advised them on the safest route through the Dandaka forest.
