Historical Notes

Note: Some inscriptions and later chronicles suggest Athirajendra's short reign ended amid civil unrest, after which Kulottunga I (descended from Rajendra I through his daughter Ammangadevi's Chalukya marriage) acceded to the Chola throne, merging the Chola and Eastern Chalukya lines.

This article records a figure from the medieval Chola and Pandya dynasties of Tamilakam (9th-14th century CE), reconstructed primarily from temple and copper-plate inscriptions rather than a single continuous chronicle. Where a genealogical claim could not be confirmed against reliable inscriptional or scholarly sources, it has been left unrecorded rather than guessed, as noted in the individual entries.
